In the second instalment of our two-part series, we’re going to look more closely at transport...
Top transport industry heavyweights, engine manufacturer Cummins South Pacific and transport trailer manufacturers, Drake Trailers joined forces last week to hold an information day for Marsden State High School’s Year 11 students.
The initiative was part of the Commercial Vehicle Industry Association of Queensland’s (CVIAQ) campaign to attract young people to careers in the transport manufacturing industry.
The students from Marsden State High School in Logan were given a hands-on, interactive experience at the operating facilities of both the engine manufacturer, Cummins South Pacific and Drake Trailers, the Brisbane-based manufacturer of heavy transport trailers.
The CVIAQ campaign will be rolled out across other school districts with the aim of helping students to make informed choices about apprenticeships, traineeships and work experience in the transport industry, which lead to a wide variety of different, well paid occupations, including:
Drake Trailers is a strong supporter of industry apprenticeships and the company has been working together with Apprenticeships Queensland to provide on-the-job training and skills for a number of years.
Drake Trailers has a history of innovation in transport trailer manufacturing, with the company’s ground-breaking low loader, the Swingwing trailer revolutionising the heavy haulage trailer market in 1969. Since then, the company has strived to integrate innovative work practices across the business and has been an early adopter of technology such as robotic welding and Computer Aided Design (CAD).
Among the leading trailer manufacturers in Australia, our Australian-made heavy haulage transport trailers are used by a wide range of industry sectors such as transport, mining, construction and agriculture due to their custom-designed features and exceptional build quality, using only the very best materials, including exclusively Australian, Japanese or Swedish steel.
